This week, production glue was honored to help Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his key team with the exciting launch of NYC Service, a new citywide initiative focused on supporting and encouraging New Yorkers to volunteer and become active in organizations within their community. The event, hosted by the New Balance Track and Field Center (located at 168th Street and Fort Washington), took the form of a spirited rally. The event coincides with President Obama's call for "a new commitment to civic engagement" and challenges NYC to become leaders in this movement.
The production glue team was led by Jennifer Kurland (Event Producer), Cheryl Adler (Assistant Producer,) Jack Hilley (Technical Director) and Evan Alexander (Set Designer) . The team included a host of production glue all-stars who ensured the event's success.
The goal of the event design was to transform the venue, an incredible track and field center, into a rally environment. The staging included bleachers for the 75 guests from various NYC volunteer organizations chosen to sit on the stage and greet the audience with the Mayor. The venue's Jumbotron was lowered in to show IMAG, video, and graphics. A lighting truss was added to balance lighting for cameras and a line array PA system was added for vocal support.
As the close to 2000, audience members entered the venue they were invited to sign two banners symbolizing their commitment to NYC Service . The banners were ceremoniously raised at the top of the program and flanked the stage. Additionally several cameras throughout the audience, captured the energy and action in the audience, including live interviews with MTV personality Sway Calloway. Later in the program, following Mayor Bloomberg's speech, several participants were invited to speak about their continuing commitment to service; including a special guest speaker, Caroline Kennedy.
On the whole, the event was a great success. Participants emerged from the event in high spirits, with excitement, optimism, and renewed commitment to a new era of service that exists in NYC's future.
production glue would like to thank the Mayor's Office for the opportunity to work on this project and pledges its support for NYC Service!
